Behavior of dairy heifers after increasing the amounts of milk replacer powder added to whole milk PAB
Rufino,Sâmara Raiany de Almeida; Azevedo,Rafael Alves de; Furini,Pamela Michéli; Campos,Mariana Magalhães; Machado,Fernanda Samarini; Pires,Maria de Fátima Avila; Lima,Juliana Aparecida Mello; Coelho,Sandra Gesteira.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of increasing the contents of total solids (TS) in whole milk, by adding increasing amounts of milk replacer powder, on the behavior of dairy heifers. Holstein-Gyr crossbred heifers (n = 60) were distributed in four treatments: 13.5, 16.1, 18.2, and 20.4% TS. From 5 to 55 days of age, heifers received 6 L per day of liquid feed, which was reduced by half from 56 to 59 days. Heifers were weaned at 60 days of age and monitored until 90 days, and their behavior was evaluated weekly. During gradual weaning and after weaning, heifer behavior was recorded 1 hour before and 1 hour after liquid feed was offered, and, during weaning, it was evaluated by the scan method. Heifers fed liquid feed...

Macromineral requirements of Holstein calves PAB
Rodrigues,João Paulo Pacheco; Lima,Jéssika Carolina Moutinho; Castro,Marcelo Messias Duarte; Valadares Filho,Sebastião de Campos; Chizzotti,Mario Luiz; Campos,Mariana Magalhães; Machado,Fernanda Samarini; Marcondes,Marcos Inácio.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to quantify the net requirements for the maintenance (NRm) and growth (NRg), as well as the retention coefficient (RC) of calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium and magnesium, of Holstein calves. The NRm were 87.8, 20.8, 4.36, 2.21, and 1.01 mg kg-1 of empty body weight for Ca, P, Na, K, and Mg, respectively. The RC was 0.882, 0.473, 0.274, 0.088, and 0.052 for Ca, P, Na, K, and Mg respectively. The requirements of Ca and P of Holstein calves are higher than those estimated for adult animals.

Nutritional diversity of Brachiaria ruziziensis clones Ciência Rural
Moreira,Ellen de Almeida; Souza,Shirley Motta de; Ferreira,Alexandre Lima; Tomich,Thierry Ribeiro; Azevêdo,José Augusto Gomes; Souza Sobrinho,Fausto de; Benites,Flávio Rodrigo Gandolfi; Machado,Fernanda Samarini; Campos,Mariana Magalhães; Pereira,Luiz Gustavo Ribeiro.
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional diversity of Brachiaria ruziziensis clones through chemical composition and in vitro kinetics of ruminal fermentation. Twenty three clones of Brachiaria ruziziensis were used (15, 16, 46, 174, 411, 590, 651, 670, 768, 776, 844, 859, 950, 965, 970, 975, 1067, 1093, 1296, 1765, 1806, 1894 and 1972) and Brachiaria ruziziensis cv. ‘Kennedy’, Brachiaria brizantha cv. ‘Marandu’ and Brachiaria decumbens cv. ‘Basilisk’ as controls within 27 days of harvesting. The experimental design used randomized blocks with 26 treatments (genotypes) and three replications. Evaluation of the nutritional divergence was performed using principal components analysis, based on the following discriminatory variables: in...

Nutritional plans on the intake, digestibility, and performance of dairy heifers of different breed compositions PAB
Oliveira Filho,Carlos Alberto Alves; Machado,Fernanda Samarini; Ferreira,Alexandre Lima; Tomich,Thierry Ribeiro; Maurício,Rogério Martins; Campos,Mariana Magalhães; Silva,Camilla Flávia Portela Gomes da; Azevêdo,José Augusto Gomes de; Pereira,Luiz Gustavo Ribeiro.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of nutritional plans and breed composition on nutrient intake and digestibility, nitrogen balance, and performance of dairy heifers in tropical conditions. Thirty-six heifers - 12 Holstein, 12 Gyr, and 12 Gyrolando F1 (½ Holstein × ½ Gyr) - were housed in a tie-stall system and randomly distributed, adopting a completely randomized design in a 3×3 factorial arrangement (nutritional plans and breed composition). The diets were formulated to enable weight gains of 200, 400, and 800 g per day, corresponding to the nutritional plans 11, 14, and 19 g kg-1 body weight (BW), respectively. The intake of dry matter, fibrous fractions (g kg-1 BW-0.75), and metabolizable energy (kcal-1 BW-0.75) in the...

Reduction of crude protein in diets fed to lactating Holstein-Gyr cows PAB
Guimarães,Clóvis Ribeiro; Azevedo,Rafael Alves de; Campos,Mariana Magalhães; Machado,Fernanda Samarini; Pedroso,Alexandre Mendonça; Carvalheira,Luciano de Rezende; Tomich,Thierry Ribeiro; Pereira,Luiz Gustavo Ribeiro; Coelho,Sandra Gesteira.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of reducing crude protein (CP) contents in diets with a constant metabolizable protein content on the intake, performance, nitrogen balance, and nutrient digestibility of lactating Holstein-Gyr cows. Animals (n = 24, 103±23 days in milk) were allocated to four treatments (n = 6 per group) with different CP contents: 127, 132, 139, and 156 g kg-1 dry matter (DM). DM intake was not affected by treatments. CP intake and digestibility increased linearly with higher CP contents. Milk yield (23.7±3 kg per day) and the percentages of milk protein (3.3±0.2%) and fat (3.8±0.5%) were not affected by CP reduction. Milk and blood urea nitrogen increased linearly with the increase of CP in the diet,...
